Born in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, I began my musical journey at age 9, where I took lessons at the Southern Marines Steel Band Foundation under the director Mr. Malamo Joseph.

My first performance was in 1994 at the National Panorama Competition held in Trinidad yearly. My love for the art form grew and I began taking part in competitions and events.

In 1997 I placed 1st in the “Trinidad and Tobago Music Festival” Steel Pan Solo Category class 43a. piece entitled “ Nocturne in E♭”.

I then joined the Skiffle Bunch Steel Orchestra where I began to show my determination as a pannist with my new band members who were now my new musical family. After completing my Secondary School education, I was recruited and given a scholarship to Florida Memorial University to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree under the direction of PhD. Dawn Batson. In 2003 I left my home to go on to become a young musician, educator and performer.

The MTV music video awards held yearly in the USA use different genres of music and present awards to the top artists across the world. In 2005 the artist Christopher Bridges aka “Ludacris” production team contacted PhD. Batson for a music collaboration. The song “Pimpin All Over The World” incorporated the steel pan and there I was on the big stage performing as the Co- captain of the FMU steel band. We made headlines across the world and became very popular amongst our peers and faculty. I received the award for academic performance “Dean’s List“that same year.

In 2006, I was offered a job as a Steel pan music teacher during the summer break at the ‘Sol Fest Performance program’ held in Key West, Florida. During my time in KeyWest I performed at local bars, clubs and hotels, The Inn at KeyWest, The Island Dog, Sloppy Joe and Irish Kevins to name a few. I played at Mallory Square as a street performer as well.

After I completed my degree, I moved to North Broward and worked as a Dj and musician at the Mardi Gras Casino for many years. I retired as a Dj and returned to Trinidad to live and become a businessperson and entrepreneur.

In 2017, I started my company Carlon Lyons Music Group, where I teach and produce music to anyone with a desire for music education and performance. I currently work as a Fabricator at Trinweld Contracting Services Limited.
